Friday Thoughts :: 14 September 2012

Hi there!

How has your week been?

I have been fighting a really awful cough that has kept me awake at night.

And I have also been thinking hard about this blog... but more on that later...

First, I want to share with you this speech by Michelle Obama if you haven't already watched it.

My husband first mentioned that I should watch it.

Apparently, the speech even went viral in China with the Daily Dot quoting Yingwang Dechang as saying: “I’m not an American, so why, when I’ve finished listening to this speech, do I have such an urge to cry?” .

So when Hai Fang blogged about it yesterday, I knew I had to watch it.

Once the the kids were tucked in bed, I finally watched it.

Let's just say that I needed more than one tissue.

Now I know there is an election around the corner and it was a political speech but I loved the bits that she shared, honestly and sincerely.

There were so many good quotes and you will see them floating around the blogosphere but let me share this part of the speech with you :

We learned about dignity and decency – that how hard you work matters more than how much you make…that helping others means more than just getting ahead yourself.
We learned about honesty and integrity – that the truth matters…that you don’t take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules…and success doesn’t count unless you earn it fair and square.
We learned about gratitude and humility – that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean…and we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.
I have been spending lots of time thinking about what I really want to be building with this blog. Probably because so many of my fellow mummy bloggers have been answering the question on why they blog.

Well, I guess I decided that this blog isn't just a space for me.

I really set up this blog to make friends.

To help encourage others to live life meaningfully.

To make a difference.

So I have decided that I am gonna work hard to do that on this blog with the help of some friends as well.

I have a couple of things planned for the next few months and I hope that you will find it useful and inspiring.

If you like it, do leave a comment here to let me know. I would love to hear from you.

Or ask me a question. I love questions.

Maybe share it with someone who might find it useful.

Whatever you choose, I hope you will stay for a while.

Cos blogging just isn't as fun without friends.

Have a great weekend and see you back here on Monday!
