The school holidays have started and we have a holiday planned. I have to start packing next week but am starting to prepare a couple of things to take with us. One of the things that I will be packing is this advent calendar. Oh, make that 2 copies of this advent calendar! It is simple and light and fun too.
It is basically a version of the scratch and win cards.
So each day, the kids will get to scratch off one box from their advent calendar which will reveal a picture.
I also plan to bring along a few treats that will go match each day just to heighten the fun factor but I think you could just use the calendar as it is.
Before you begin, print out the advent calendar that has the images here.
- dishwashing liquid
- silver paint
- clear contact paper
Step 1 : Fold a triangle down on one corner of the contact paper.
(Position it over the printed advent calendar and then stick it down.)
Step 2 : Apply the contact paper slowly, gently smoothing out bubbles that appear.
Step 3 : Mix two parts silver paint with one part dishwashing liquid.
Step 4 : Roughly paint a small square over each image. Leave it to dry for a few hours.
My kids are home for much of the day as school is closed so I decided to go for the rough feel by just painting over each image. If you have more time, you could paint a sheet of contact paper. Leave it to dry and cut out squares that you can then paste over the images.
For me this works, and I think the boys will like it.
Oh and if you can't seem to get hold of any silver paint, you can also try this really easy crayon method.
