Cake Decorating with Alphabet Pasta

Jasmine April 4, 2013

Here is a DIY that would be fun for mother's day and great for kids who are just learning to spell. You could use a brand new set of clean alphabet stamps for this but I wanted tried to use supplies that could be found at a supermarket.

I purchased all the items from Fairprice Finest at Bishan.

Materials:
- freezer bags or clean plastic bags
- rolling pin ( from my baking supplies)
- white rolled fondant
- pre-made cupcakes
- alphabet pasta

1. Place the white fondant between two freezer sheets and roll it till the whole sheet is approximately 3cm thick.
2. Remove the plastic sheet that is on top. Place the cookie cutter over the fondant and press down firmly.
3. Peel the fondant around the circle to make it easier for you to lift it up.
4. Gently remove it from the plastic sheet and place it on the cupcake.
5. Search for the alphabets that you need (I find a toothpick helps to navigate around the alphabets). Coin a funny phrase or say something meaningful. Carefully position them and press down gently with a toothpick.

Finally, a note of caution. Please do note that the alphabet pasta is merely for decoration (as it is uncooked and not at all tasty) and so I would advise that you remove it before eating the cupcake.

And thats's all there is to it.
What do you think?
Would you try this idea for a special occasion?

The best kind of Christmas tree is covered with candy and snow, icing sugar, that is. Thank you @elizabethshenlyn for hosting us yesterday! The gingerbread tree was delicious.
Such a delight to be decorating our own gingerbread trees 🌲 as we count down to Christmas.
Finally found time to attend another workshop at @thecraftcrowd where I learnt how to make a concrete pot which we also painted. It was my first time working with concrete and it was a bit like baking. Bringing home 3 pots today. Loved learning from @mm_mrkt
As a mum, this exhibit titled cocoon connected with me. It depicts how as the designer, Chen Nina was preparing to leave home for university, her mum prepared a home-cooked meal and bought fresh flowers for the first time. It took her years later to understand her mother's emotions as she released her from the warmth and safety of the cocoon she had created. This exhibit tells the story of departure and evolution and in her own words, 'while departure is sad, evolution is beautiful and exciting'.
In the floral windows to the world, there are different artistic floral displays. This one was inspired by film reels and flowers.
I took an early morning walk with @jerilynmoon at the #singaporegardenfestival this morning. There were so many different inspiring and mystical displays. It was invigorating! Here's a peek at one of the first few displays that we saw. Called "Dare to Dream", the vertical landscaping and gazebo was cleverly designed to prod us to dream the impossible. Are you in need of some courage or inspiration? The festival is on till 31 July 2016.
Do you know that today is International Kissing Day? We are big on hugs and kisses in our family. Always before bed but also at anytime in the day and for no reason whatsoever. Sometimes when I am in the midst of working, my kids will interrupt me and ask for a hug. Honestly, I used to get annoyed but I realised a while back that I want to always be available for a hug. So whenever my kids do ask, I now stop what I am doing and I give them a hug. On other times, they ask for a hug when they have done something wrong and I have just reprimanded them. It's harder then but I hug them too. I want them to know that my hugs are free and unconditional and I am always available for a hug (or a kiss). Hug or kiss someone you love today! #hugsarefree #internationalkissingday
We're back in Singapore this weekend for a few reasons and one of them is to celebrate a good friend turning 44. Here's a snap of the gorgeous miniature birthday cakes inspired by his fashion sense. The patterns were painstakingly styled to match outfits that he has worn in the past. Such an amazing job done by @lishbeng! Also, so much love for the restaurant decor designed by our friends. The party was held at a newly launched boutique hotel with a chic restaurant on the ground floor in Tiong Bahru. Check out COO if you're in the area. #cols44
