Over the weekend, I had to get dressed up to attend the Singapore Blog Awards award ceremony. The event was held at Shanghai Dolly and the theme was the 60s. My sister came with me and gamely dressed in a 60s print. It was really fun to have an afternoon out together. There was a photobooth there too and so we made sure to use it.
I was toying with a few different looks but in the end, I decided to keep it classic. I wore my favourite little black dress and slipped on grey heels and brought along a vintage camera that I bought while in LA as an accessory. It doesn't work but at $15, I thought it was quite a steal.
Ok, so I wasn't very creative with my garb and probably wasn't gonna win the Best Dressed Award but if you want to check out how funky bloggers can be, watch this video. Oh and if you are looking for Inspector Singh, you can find her blogging at www.gingerbreadmum.com.
But yes, the big news is that my blog won the Best Lifestyle Blog award!
There were quite a number of strong contenders so I was quite surprised by the win but nonetheless, thrilled and grateful.
I hope you don't mind sharing my joy as I thank the people who inspire me.
A huge thanks to ...
my mum who first showed me that any mistake can be turned into an opportunity if you are creative. She never fails to surprise me with her ability to transform the ordinary into extra-ordinary each day. Thank you Mum for helping me see the world with a creative lens and for always supporting me in my choices.
my husband and my two boys who constantly keep me on my toes but have also taught me to play and live in the moment.
my family and friends who motivate me everyday to be creative so that life is a lot more fun.
Of course, to my readers and friends who voted. I am so thankful that you would spare the time to vote. I know some of you voted more than once! Honestly, that really blows my mind. Thank you so much! I really hope to bring you more ideas that will encourage you to keep creating.
A friend once asked, "how do you grow a blog?"
Although I am no expert at blogging, my opinion is that blogging is kinda like dieting or getting in shape for a marathon. You need to do 100 little things consistently to achieve a great result and slowly but surely, if you keep at it, it will pay off over time.
But because it can take a while, the blogging journey is made easier when you have friends who truly support you. The ones who take the time to read your posts, who leave comments, likes and are interested in you beyond your blog.
Today, my blog is where it is because of the friends that I have made along the way. Their friendship has kept me going. Without them, I might have stopped blogging halfway. Some even nudged me to join the Singapore Blog Awards. Their belief in me and encouraging words definitely made a difference.
If you are new to blogging, my advice is to find a few blogs that you identify with and befriend the bloggers behind them. Start by leaving comments on their blogs then after some time, send a casual facebook message or email to see if they would be keen to meet up with a few other mutual blogger friends. Don't worry if they don't respond, you can always try someone else. Eventually, you will find people you can call friends and to me, that is like striking gold.
So to my newfound blogging friends (scroll down to see the list), thank you for your friendship and support. You really make blogging so much more fun!
